Tyler ISD Fine Arts hosted Carnegie Hall Link-Up at Tyler High School’s beautiful new theatre Wednesday, March 9. All Tyler ISD 4th and 5th-grade students performed with their voices and recorders from their seats. A partnership with the East Texas Symphony Orchestra (ETSO) gives students the unique experience to perform with the ETSO.

“Today is a culmination of a wonderful music program ETSO is proud to bring to 3500 students in our community,” ETSO Executive Director Robin Hampton said. “The music curriculum is part of Carnegie Hall’s Link-Up program, immersing students with the amazing experience of instrumental music. Thank you, Tyler ISD and Sandra Newton, for hosting ’Orchestra Sings’ concerts!”

Tyler ISD Orchestra programs, District Honors Choir, student actors from Caldwell Arts Academy, Tyler ISD Flute Choir, and the theatre teacher from Tyler Legacy High School were all present on the stage with ETSO. Each instrumental section of the Orchestra introduced the audience to the musical sound they made before the first link-up song, “Come to Play,” began.

“The Carnegie Hall Link-Up concerts are such a magical experience,” Tyler ISD Director of Visual and Performing Arts Sandra Newton said. “We are thankful for the partnership with ETSO, Richard Lee, and the musicians of the East Texas Symphony Orchestra. We can offer exceptional educational fine arts experiences to our Tyler ISD students that foster a love of music and make incredible memories.”

“It is always a highlight of the ETSO season,” ETSO Director of Patron Services Kathy Housby added. “We are so grateful to work with all the dedicated music teachers in Tyler ISD each year who bring this experience to students.”

Everyone involved in the production expressed gratitude and shared thanks to the Tyler ISD administration and the Tyler ISD Board of Trustees for being such great supporters of the arts in our community.

“We are so thankful for this incredible opportunity with ETSO,” Tyler ISD Lead Elementary Music Teacher Kristin Pool added. “Tyler ISD is so supportive of the arts. I’m thankful to be a part of the Tyler ISD fine arts family.”
