Tyler Rotary awarded Legacy students Luke Youngblood and Hannah Smith with the Tyler Rotary Young Citizens award last night at their 94th Annual Awards Banquet.
There were over eighty Jr.High, High School and College students who were chosen by their teachers, counselors and others for their academic expertise, character, leadership qualities and other criteria to be able to be presented this prestigious award.
Also recognized was Legacy teacher of the year, Abby McCarty.

Legacy student Nate Jennings was awarded yesterday with a scholarship from the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC). Nate's family, teachers, and Navy representatives filled the Legacy Media Center for a scholarship ceremony where Nate was awarded his scholarship check for $200,000. Nate is a model student at Legacy, involved in many clubs, as well as one of the drum majors. Nate will be heading to Texas A&M University next year while participating in the NROTC program.
The purpose of the Navy ROTC Program is to educate and train qualified young men and women for service as commissioned officers in the Navy's unrestricted line, the Navy Nurse Corps and the Marine Corps. As the largest single source of Navy and Marine Corps officers, the Navy ROTC Scholarship Program plays an important role in preparing mature young men and women for leadership and management positions in an increasingly technical Navy and Marine Corps.
Selected applicants for the Navy ROTC Scholarship Program are awarded scholarships through a highly competitive national selection process, and receive full tuition, books stipend, educational fees and other financial benefits or Room and Board at many of the country's leading colleges and universities. Upon graduation, midshipmen are commissioned as officers in the unrestricted line Naval Reserve or Marine Corps Reserve.
Legacy Band Director, Sam Labordus, was also recognized with an Outstanding Impact Educator award from the Navy. Jennings nominated Mr. Labordus as having a profound impact on his life. Mr. Labordus shared that as educators, we hope to make a difference in our students lives. Some times a students make a difference in ours, and that student is Nate Jennings for him.
Congratulations Nate! We are so proud and can't wait to see the big things you accomplish after Legacy!
We had a great turn out tonight at Legacy's 8th Grade Preview Night! Incoming students and families were able to meet Principal Sherman, talk to counselors about our many course options, learn about enrollment, walk the campus, learn about PTA and buy Legacy spirit wear, meet and learn about many of our clubs, sports, and organizations, and more!

Four Tyler legacy students: Alaia Privett, Kylie Broumley, Megan Wilhite, and Sydney Allen, qualified for the US Youth Soccer National PRO League as members of the FC Dallas-East Texas ‘07 Girls-Premier soccer team. They are one of only 40 teams nationwide in their age group to achieve this distinction.
The National League P.R.O. (Player. Recruitment. Opportunity.) serves as the competitive national league format in which teams compete for direct advancement to the annual US Youth Soccer National Championships. Teams earn their place into National League P.R.O. each season through their performance in the Conferences.

This morning Legacy AVID seniors hosted a Teacher Appreciation Breakfast. Seniors were able to invite one of their Tyler ISD teachers who impacted their education at some point in their school career. Seniors chose teachers from across the district to honor. While the teachers enjoyed breakfast, seniors read a short speech on the lasting impression their chosen teacher had made on their life and education. Thank you to all the amazing educators that helped these seniors to where they are today!

Each year Legacy PTA offers a College or Vocational scholarship for our seniors. This year PTA awarded 4 amazing seniors scholarships! PTA had a record number of senior applicants this year and the winners were chosen anonymously from the many outstanding applicants.

This weekend the Legacy Speech and Debate Team Competed at NSDA Regional Big Questions Debate in Grand Saline. 4 Legacy Debaters Colten Edelman, Aiman Saqib, Kenadi Carmichael, and Jawhar Yasin all made it to finals representing 4 of the 8 students left in the region.
Aiman Saqib took 1st place overall and has advanced to the National Speech and Debate Tournament in Phoenix, Arizona This Summer. This is the Largest Academic Meet in the World.
Kenadi Carmichael took 3rd place and represents the highest ranked freshman in the region for Big Questions Debate.
Notable: Colten Edelman a Senior and 4 year Debate Veteran Completed his NSDA Career with 1032 NSDA points. The NSDA will recognize him as Tyler Lee/ Legacy's second ever NSDA Academic All American representing 2% of all 141 thousand NSDA members nation wide.

Last week our band program participated in their UIL Concert & Sight-Reading. The Symphonic Band, Symphonic Winds, and Wind Ensemble all earned a First Division Sweepstakes rating from all 6 judges. We are beyond proud of our students as they have worked extremely hard to pull off such a great performance!
