Caldwell Arts Academy is overjoyed to share the unveiling of its latest project, "Star City," crafted by imaginative third-grade students who turned plain cardboard boxes into a lively and fully functional miniature city.

Under the guidance of their teachers, each student designed and hand-built their own structures, decorations, and usable items. From banks and courthouses to bakeries and dance studios, students created a wide variety of businesses. This project showcases how Caldwell integrates art into everyday learning, with Star City incorporating lessons from social studies.

"Star City is a place where creativity and real-world business techniques come to life for our third graders," said third-grade teacher Sara Pearson. "The boxes were transformed into vibrant creations, showcasing their creativity and dedication. They worked hard designing and creating their good or service. I'm immensely proud of their hard work and know the community was as amazed as I am."

The students were delighted when City of Tyler Mayor Don Warren visited and participated in a special city key exchange with the student Mayor of Star City, Jacob Camaro.

The presentation and exchange of keys was a moment to be remembered. Mayor Warren expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, "These third graders have recreated the city with cardboard. As you walk around, you see different businesses in the City of Tyler, and these young people are inside running these businesses like businesses. This is the future of our city, and I'm so excited to be here and to be a part of it."

Students proudly posed alongside their businesses, and Principal Bobby Markle beamed with pride. "This project is something that not only aligns with our vision of applying academics in the real-world setting but also allows our students to partner with the community, especially the mayor's office," Markle said. "We are so excited for this annual event and the diverse businesses created!"
