🎉 Welcome Wednesday Spotlight! 🎉 Help us give a BIG Owens Elementary welcome to our newest team member — Aleshia Walker!💙📚 She will be joining our flock as a 4th grade Science and Social Studies Teacher! Here is a bit about Ms. Walker: I am super excited to be joining the amazing team at Owens Elementary! I’ve been in education for over 20 years, and my teaching career began right here at Owens back in 2004. Becoming a teacher has always felt like a calling, and I truly believe in the power of education to make a difference. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to teach and lead in a variety of roles. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education and my master’s in Educational Leadership from the University of Texas at Tyler. I’m currently working on my Ed.S. in Reading from Georgia Southern University, because I genuinely believe that great educators are always learning and growing. When I’m not in the classroom, I enjoy spending quality time with my family, dancing, and treating myself to a good mani/pedi. I also love bowling, card games, and puzzles. And I’ve got to mention that I’m a huge Dallas Cowboys fan! On game days, you’ll definitely find me in my jersey cheering loud for America’s Team. I was a paraprofessional for 10 years and have been in my own classroom for 8 years. I graduated from LeTourneau University with a degree in education. My passion is reading/writing and the growth that comes with 1st graders learning to read fluently. I hope to bring my knowledge collaborated together with other teachers and administrators to ensure critical thinking skills, growth mindset, and a love for reading/learning embedded in all of our first grade learners. I'm excited to meet my first grade team, my Owens family, and our wonderful students. After making a huge impact in 2nd grade, she’s stepping into a 1st grade classroom this year and will serve as grade level lead🌟 Her passion, dedication, and love for our students continue to shine—just in a new grade level! 💙📚 We’re so lucky to keep her talent in our school family. Here is a bit about Mrs. Fox: I have been teaching 2nd grade at Owens for the past 2 years. It’s been a wonderful experience helping students grow both academically and personally during such an important stage of their learning journey. Next year, I’ll be moving to 1st grade, and I couldn’t be more excited! I’m looking forward to building strong foundational skills with some of our younger learners and watching their enthusiasm for reading, writing, and discovery take off. Here is a bit about Mrs. Boyd: I have been at Owens for almost six years now! Before being hired, I student-taught at Owens in 2nd grade and then in 1st grade, and I fell in love with the students, teachers, and the community. I served as a 1st grade teacher for two years, then transitioned to Kindergarten, where I taught for three years. I have always known that I wanted to do more for the students at Owens and be a support system for the teachers. When hearing this position was available, I felt called to make a greater impact on our school. I am most excited to teach all of the students who have graced my classroom over the years and continue to love on them as they grow! My goal is to ignite a passion for reading and a love for learning in our library. I am also incredibly excited to work closely with our amazing staff at Owens and to remain in the school that has always felt like home. I cannot wait for this year! I decided to become a teacher because I’ve seen firsthand the powerful impact a dedicated teacher can have on a child’s life. I want to be that kind of teacher —someone a child feels safe with, supported by, and inspired to learn from. Creating a safe, encouraging environment where students can grow both academically and personally is something I’m deeply passionate about. Owens feels like family. I’ve had the opportunity to student teach and be a long term substitute on this campus and can truly say that the staff at Owens is like no other. I was born and raised in LaRue and am a graduate of Texas A&M Commerce. I have an amazing fiancé, and the best family and friends you could ask for. I love fashion, cooking, and anything outdoors. I have taught first grade for three wonderful years. My heart has always been drawn to children and teaching- it is truly my passion and calling. I love to have fun and be silly with my students, I think that is what learning is all about! I have heard amazing things about this campus, the staff, and the family connections and support. PreK through 2nd grade had their field day today and it was a blast! A huge thank you to Coach Jeong, Coach Kenebrew and our amazing volunteers and lighthouse students for pulling off such a fun event!
