Our students took a trip around Latin America without ever leaving campus! During Mesas Culturales, students learned about the beautiful cultures, traditions, history, and customs of 🇵🇦 Panama, 🇧🇴 Bolivia, 🇵🇾 Paraguay, 🇭🇳 Honduras, 🇻🇪Venezuela and 🇳🇮 Nicaragua.

In our Kinder classroom, literacy time is full of hands-on learning. 🖍️ Students rotate through learning centers (stations) where they practice, in small groups and at their own pace, what they learn with their teacher.
🔤 Alphabet: connecting each letter with its sounds and pictures.
✏️ Writing: practicing accurate formation of uppercase and lowercase letters.
🔊 Initial sounds: identifying the beginning sound of words using tokens.
🎲 Vowel dice & word search: rolling, playing and finding words.
🧩 Word building: making words with magnetic letters.
📝 Dictation: writing grade-level words correctly.
🎶 Poem: putting the parts of a poem in order, building sequencing, rhythm and comprehension.
💻 Tablets with iReady Reading: practicing reading with digital activities that adapt to each student.
💡 Why do centers work? Each green bin displays an "I can…" learning goal, so students know what they're learning and why. They learn by playing, handling materials, talking and writing, building independence, teamwork and confidence. And they do it in their home language, the strongest foundation for becoming readers and writers! 💪

Our students and staff showed off their western spirit for Vaquero Day! From cowboy hats and boots to bandanas and western wear, our campus was filled with vaqueros big and small. 🐎⭐
Our 3rd graders have had a rootin’ tootin’ good time! We kicked off the fun with the Rodeo Slack field trip, and today we kept the excitement going with Round Up Day!
Students rotated through four fun-filled activities where they:

Can materials keep their properties when mixed together?
Through experimentation and observation, students gathered evidence, compared results, and developed a deeper understanding of how mixtures work in the real world. Learning is always more exciting when science comes to life!
Learning has never been so sweet! Our students explored mixtures and solutions by creating homemade ice cream in a bag. Using milk, vanilla, and sugar, they observed how these ingredients combined to form a solution.
As scientists, students constructed and supported an argument using evidence from their observations to explain why the combination of milk, vanilla, and sugar is a solution. They discussed how the ingredients mixed evenly and worked together to create a delicious treat!
This hands-on experiment helped students connect science concepts to real-world experiences while practicing critical thinking, observation, and scientific reasoning.

Next week, we will celebrate Start With Hello Week! Please encourage students to participate in each day’s activity:
Monday: Greet someone new with a smile, wave, or high five.
Tuesday: Write a kind or encouraging note to someone.
Wednesday: Help create our Heritage Tree by sharing cultures, traditions, and stories.
Thursday: List ways to show kindness and choose one to put into action.
Friday: Wear cowboy or western attire as we celebrate friendship, community, and traditions.
Ms. Tiemblo’s Pre-K students learned about Mexican culture and history while practicing their fine motor skills and identifying geometric shapes. Students put their learning into action by creating colorful designs with the shapes and proudly displaying their finished work outside the classroom!

Some of our Birdwell Middle School students had an exciting opportunity to participate in Constitution Day activities at UT Tyler! Students spent the day learning more about the U.S. Constitution, civic engagement, and the important role our founding document plays in American government.

During Ms. Olalde's 1st grade Social Studies lesson, students learned about Hispanic Heritage Month by exploring the diverse cultures, traditions, and customs of Hispanic communities. Students learned how families celebrate by making a piñata that they decorated themselves and filled with candy to take home and celebrate with their families.

🔬🧪 Science in Action: Mixtures and Solutions!
Our students are having a great time exploring how mixtures can be separated during our Mixtures and Solutions unit in science. A mixture is a combination of two or more substances that retain their own physical properties and can be separated using different methods.
Today, students investigated the learning goal: “I can investigate what happens to matter when it is combined in mixtures and then separated back into its original substances.”
Through hands-on exploration, students observed how matter changes when substances are mixed and discovered different ways to separate those mixtures. Learning science through inquiry and investigation helps students develop critical thinking skills while making meaningful connections to the world around them! 🌎✨
