Tyler Legacy High School Tennis earned the Region II 6A School Team Tennis Sportsmanship Award. USTA Texas recognized Tyler Legacy Tennis for its outstanding demonstration of sportsmanship during the 2022 UIL Regional Team Tennis Tournament. Team members embodied ideals and values on the tennis court, including enthusiasm, compassion, fair-mindedness, and positivity.

This recognition is part of an initiative in collaboration with the Texas Tennis Coaches Association (TTCA) to acknowledge teams committed to sportsmanship. This team was selected for recognition by the USTA Officials supervising play.

“Thank you, USTA, for selecting Tyler Legacy for the Sportsmanship Award,” Head Tennis Coach Charles Sizemore said. “It’s what we strive to do with our program, and that’s to become a family. That was our #1 team goal this year. Our players, on all levels of our program, accomplished this goal, and I am super excited for our program to be recognized for their accomplishments!”

The mission of USTA Texas is to promote and develop the growth of tennis in Texas, and sportsmanship is essential to their success. Although they encourage a competitive atmosphere, they are also committed to shaping young players and fostering the development of tomorrow’s leaders.

“Tyler Legacy Tennis team members represented their school, families, and community at the highest level,” USTA Texas Executive Director Van Barry said in a statement. “Their leadership, approach, and character throughout the competition set a remarkable standard and model for all in sports to follow.”

Congratulations again to Tyler Legacy Tennis for their outstanding effort and for always respecting the spirit of the game.
