elementary aged students sit in chairs and show the "I love you" sign

Austin Elementary School students enjoy exploring a fun new way to enhance social and emotional learning. Every other Friday, the campus holds “LOBO Hour” (named after their mascot).

LOBO Hour aims to create an innovative, meaningful, and engaging campus culture and climate. K-5 students are encouraged to select and participate in various clubs created or sponsored by T.J. Austin staff members. The LOBO Hour clubs promote and address student leadership, student empowerment, and school belonging.

The most popular club so far has been the “Beautification Club.” Students bonding over beautifying their campus. From cleaning common areas like the library to sweeping and taking out the trash, these students take pride in their surroundings, work hard for others, and learn life skills. Another group learning life skills is the American Sign Language (ASL) club. This enthusiastic group is excited to soak up knowledge and use their hands to communicate things like “I love you,” as seen in the cover picture.

Other unique experiences include learning traditional games from Mexico to understand how children around the globe have fun and stay active. Staying active is also the focus of the soccer, cheerleading, and volleyball clubs. To master the skills needed to play the game of volleyball, students use balloons in the gymnasium, while the soccer club and cheerleading club encourage teamwork and fun.

“Real Talk with Mr. CJ” allows a group of young boys to connect with a mentor to ask questions about life and receive guidance.

Austin Elementary School is seeing many Successful Student Outcomes during this extraordinary and positive hour!
