two women stand with four elementary age children between them holding a Venezuela flag

Jones Elementary students and staff were in for an unexpected treat on Tuesday morning. They received a special visit from Tyler Legacy sophomore, Fabiola Caraballo, and her mother in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month!

Fabiola, a gifted singer and actress, shared with the students about the traditional dress of Venezuela, showed the students the flag of Venezuela and then sang them two songs in Spanish. The students were enthralled by her lovely voice!

Fabiola shared with the students how much pride she has to be born in Venezuela.  She and her mother immigrated to the U.S. when Fabiola was five. Her mother, an engineer, moved to Tyler on a work visa and brought her young daughter with her. When Fabiola arrived, she spoke no English, but quickly learned at Birdwell Dual Language Immersion School. She and her mom are now permanent residents and are working on gaining U.S. citizenship.

Along with singing and acting with Tyler ISD, Tyler Civic Theater and the Magill Musical Theater, Fabiola is taking advanced classes and also plays both club and school soccer. She says she has considered the possibility of pursuing a career as a professional performer someday.
