Birdwell Dual Language Immersion School kicked off the school year with a Fiesta celebration in honor of the campus' most recent TEA Accountability 'A' rating. Like in small Latin American towns, papel picado lined the ceilings, and murals displayed colorful artwork. Students and staff wore bright, vivid traditional clothing with big smiles of happiness and pride.

"In the spirit of celebrating biculturalism, we think about our program, and celebrating with a fiesta is culturally relevant here at Birdwell,” Principal Mina Naranjo explained. “With this Fiesta, we are celebrating Birdwell's academic accomplishments and systematic success, where the students did what they were supposed to do, and the staff did what they were supposed to do. The parents trust us with that. This is just the beginning. We want to continue celebrating successful student outcomes throughout the year.”

Birdwell's new Socio de Éxito, or Success Partner, Diana's Boutique and Artesanias, joined the Fiesta by providing staff breakfast. "I am pleased to support our Mexican traditions and our new generations," Owner Diana Monsivais Hernandez said. "Being able to witness even the youngest students in pre-K with such enthusiasm for learning academics and celebrating culture in the way that Birdwell allows just warms my heart."

To wrap up this big celebration, all students were treated to "paletas," which are like popsicles, and were encouraged to keep up their hard work.

Businesses and organizations of all sizes can be effective Socios de Éxito or Success Partners.  Each partnership is individualized to meet the needs of the campus. To find out more information about being a Success Partner, click here.
