The Tyler Legacy E-Sports Club recently hosted a Valentine's Super Smash Brothers Doubles Tournament. Sign-ups were free to encourage all students to experience play in a competitive local environment.

Super Smash Brothers Ultimate is an event in the HSEL (High School E-Sports League).

Legacy High School teacher and club sponsor David Nguyen was pleased with the turnout.

"The Legacy High E-Sports Club meets weekly," Mr. Nguyen said. "We had 20 students participate in our doubles tournament, with at least ten students spectating the tournament, bringing the attendance to 30 students."

Students supported each other during play, and spectators socialized and enjoyed the action on the big screen as well. Mr. Nguyen documented scores throughout the tournament with a bracket diagram.

"I felt that the tournament was a huge success getting the students to play in a competitive environment," Mr. Nguyen continued. "I am proud of all my kids' growth in my club. I hope they continue to pursue competitive gaming or online content creation. I want this club to be a stepping stone to their future success in the e-sports world."

In the 2nd half of this year, Mr. Nguyen will focus on online content creation with his students as he wants the students to graduate from high school with a nice online content creation portfolio. The class will focus on the twitch.tv platform, learning the basics of how to set up a channel and how to maintain a stable social media following.
