tables and chairs set up in a gym for a blood drive

Tyler High School Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) organized and partnered with Carter Blood Care on Valentine’s Day to hold a unique Blood Drive. Early in the morning, dozens of students began arriving to contribute. They continued to fill beds throughout the day to give the ultimate Valentine’s Day gift of love – life!

“The students did all of the work to make this a successful event,” Anatomy and Physiology/EKG Tech Steve Niedrauer said. “I am so proud to be alongside them for today’s effort. Almost forty percent of all blood donated locally comes from students like these,”  he added.

“Each donor received a Valentine card with health-related dad jokes to brighten their day with a smile,” Campus HOSA president Aaliyah Iglesias shared. “By holding blood drives on campus and making it a fun experience,  we bring attention to the need to students and the importance of fulfilling the supply demands in our community.”
