New Episode featuring Bethany Moody - Inside Tyler ISD podcast. image of Ms. Moody in front of a microphone

In the latest podcast episode of Talks with Tyler ISD, Birdwell Dual Language Immersion School Principal Bethany Moody joins host Jennifer Hines. They talk about how the K-8 program helps students become bilingual and bi-literate in English and Spanish.

Mrs. Moody talks about how her love of different cultures and teaching came together when she first walked through Birdwell’s doors 15 years ago to interview for an elementary teaching position. An avid traveler, Ms. Moody knew she wanted to teach at a multicultural school.

“When I first walked into Birdwell, I was immediately drawn to the culture. There were teachers from El Salvador and Ecuador, and there were different cultures represented right in the hallway in the middle of a school in East Texas, which was just an incredible treasure to me.”

Ms. Moody also discusses her love of international travel that has taken her to Mexico, Bolivia, Nepal, Romania, South Africa, and Zambia.

“I would intentionally travel every year. I would usually do summer school, then travel, bring back artifacts, and enrich the classroom with that experience. Because of this, coupled with the fact that I had neighboring teachers from Mexico, Spain, or other countries, I was passionate to stay at Birdwell. I think it brings such a unique experience to the families of East Texas.”
