young boys and girls screaming with excitement as they were given new bikes

Every second grader at Jones Elementary School received a special surprise Thursday as the national nonprofit Wish for Wheels partnered with Higginbotham to provide 43 brand-new bicycles, helmets, and locks to students. The event brought volunteers and students together for an afternoon of excitement, encouragement, and the joy of riding.

β€œSeeing the excitement on our students’ faces as they received their new bicycles was incredibly special,” Jones Elementary Principal Nicole Robinson said. β€œWe are so grateful to Wish for Wheels and Higginbotham for investing in our students and creating an experience they will remember.”

Higginbotham volunteers spent the afternoon assembling bicycles at Jones Elementary before personally presenting them to students. Volunteers helped each child properly fit a helmet, adjust their bicycle, review important safety practices, and take a ride around the school's blacktop.

The event was part of Wish for Wheels' Bike Build & Give program, which connects corporate partners with elementary schools to provide second graders with new bicycles and helmets. Founded in 2004, the nonprofit works to empower children and communities by promoting physical activity, independence, and confidence through the gift of a bicycle.

β€œThere's something truly meaningful about putting a bicycle into a child's hands and seeing the possibilities it creates,” said Micah Rodgers with Higginbotham. β€œThrough this partnership, we're not just giving students bikes. We're encouraging them to get outside, try something new, and experience the confidence that comes with learning to ride. We're proud to share this experience with the Jones Elementary community.”

For the students at Jones Elementary, the celebration offered more than an afternoon of fun. Each child went home with a bicycle of their own, opening the door to new opportunities for outdoor recreation, exploration, and family adventures.

The partnership highlights the impact community organizations and businesses can have when they come together to support students and create meaningful experiences beyond the classroom.
