At the Tyler ISD Career & Technology Center (CTC), students are doing more than preparing for a career — they are gaining the skills, experience and confidence to begin building their futures today.
Since opening in 2015, the CTC has grown into a central hub for hands-on learning, industry certifications and real-world career preparation. What began as a vision to connect students with high-demand career opportunities has continued to expand to meet the changing needs of students, employers and the East Texas community.
Today, the CTC offers 28 Programs of Study spanning a wide range of career fields, including Culinary Arts, Carpentry, Electrical, Cosmetology, Animal Science, Health Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Manufacturing Technology, Welding, and more.
The growth is also reflected in student participation and achievement. More than 5,600 Tyler ISD students are currently enrolled in at least one CTE course, with students earning thousands of industry-based certifications that can support opportunities in college, the military or directly in the workforce.
Behind every number is a student gaining experience through hands-on learning. Culinary students develop skills in a commercial kitchen. Electrical students work with wiring and electrical systems. Cosmetology students practice professional services, while Carpentry students learn construction techniques and work toward nationally recognized NCCER credentials. Animal Science students gain experience connected to agriculture and veterinary-related careers.
The CTC’s impact extends beyond the classroom. Partnerships with local businesses and organizations provide students with internships, job shadowing, industry tours, guest speakers, career events and other opportunities to connect what they learn in class to the world of work.
As the CTC continues into its second decade, its mission remains focused on one goal: building career-ready students and creating pathways to opportunity. Whether students plan to attend college, enter the workforce or pursue another path after graduation, the CTC gives them a place to explore their interests, develop valuable skills and see what their future can look like.
