Across Tyler ISD, students “filled in the blank” with their own stories, goals, and experiences as campuses celebrated National AVID Day and College Colors Day, highlighting how AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is helping students see what is possible for their futures.
Students and staff joined the celebration by wearing the colors of their favorite colleges and universities, while AVID students shared signs describing the difference the program has made in their lives. Together, the messages offered a glimpse into the confidence, skills, and aspirations students are building through AVID.
AVID helps prepare students for success in college, careers, and life by strengthening skills such as organization, critical thinking, collaboration, inquiry, and academic responsibility. The program also encourages students to set goals, explore opportunities after high school, and take ownership of their futures.
“Today, Tyler ISD came together to celebrate possibility, progress, and our shared commitment to student success,” District AVID Coordinator Lilian Brooks said. “College Colors Day and National AVID Day gave our students a chance to see themselves in the future they are working toward and to recognize that their goals are within reach. When we come together as a district to champion our students and their potential, we show them just how much is possible.”
The students’ “Because of AVID, I…” messages put that impact into their own words. Each sign represented a different experience, but together they shared a common message: students are developing the tools and belief in themselves to take the next step toward their goals.
From building stronger academic habits to discovering college and career possibilities, AVID helps students turn their aspirations into a plan for what comes next.
