Congratulations to our District Elementary Teacher of Month, Colleen Cardenas, Art teacher at Dixie Elementary School.
Mrs. Cardenas consistently goes above and beyond to support, encourage, and inspire students at Dixie Elementary. With patience, creativity, and compassion, she has a remarkable ability to make every child feel seen, valued, and capable.
As an Art teacher, Mrs. Cardenas uses creativity to engage students, build confidence, and provide meaningful opportunities for self-expression. She recognizes that every child has unique talents and works to help those talents shine. Through her dedication to showcasing student artwork and celebrating accomplishments, many Dixie students have gained recognition and earned awards. More importantly, she teaches students that their creativity matters and that they have something special to contribute.
Her patience is especially meaningful for bilingual students. Mrs. Cardenas encourages students as they develop their English skills, celebrates their progress, and helps them see their home language and culture as strengths. She creates an environment where students feel comfortable participating, taking risks, and sharing their voices.
Perhaps her greatest gift is building relationships with students who are struggling. She takes time to understand each child, offering consistency, encouragement, and genuine care. From welcoming students each morning to sending them home with positive messages, Mrs. Cardenas reminds them that someone believes in them.
Mrs. Cardenas doesn't simply teach Art; she teaches confidence, perseverance, creativity, kindness, and belonging. She truly helps students discover what they can become.
