Tyler ISD’s Early College High School (ECHS) has been named the No. 1 high school in East Texas (again) by U.S. News & World Report, recognizing the campus as one of the region’s highest-performing schools for academic excellence and college readiness.
The recognition highlights the continued success of ECHS students, educators, and families and reflects the school’s commitment to providing students with a rigorous college-preparatory education while creating opportunities to earn college credit before high school graduation.
“Being named the No. 1 high school in East Texas is an incredible honor and a reflection of the hard work and dedication of our students, teachers, staff, and families,” ECHS Principal Amanda Hortman said. “Our students come to Early College ready to challenge themselves, and our staff is committed to providing the support, encouragement, and high expectations they need to succeed. We are incredibly proud of what our students accomplish every day.”
Early College High School is designed to provide students with a seamless pathway from high school to higher education. Through its partnership with Tyler Junior College, students have the opportunity to earn significant college credit while completing their high school requirements, positioning them for success beyond graduation.
The campus has continued to earn state and national recognition for its academic achievements. In 2025, ECHS was named a Lone Star Ribbon School and received the College, Career and Military Readiness Schools (CCRSM) Designated with Distinction designation for the 2025-2026 school year.
The U.S. News & World Report recognition adds to the growing list of accomplishments for a campus built around the belief that students can achieve at high levels when provided with opportunity, support, and a challenging academic environment.
“Early College High School represents what is possible when we set high expectations for students and provide them with the resources and support to meet those expectations,” Hortman said. “This recognition belongs to our entire ECHS community, and we are excited to continue building on this success.”
