Students at Woods Elementary School showed off their Lone Star pride during a fun-filled Texas Day celebration that combined hands-on learning with plenty of school spirit. The day was the culmination of a week of lessons focused on all things Texas for kindergarten students.

βWe have been talking all week long about all things Texas, whether itβs bluebonnets, longhorns, or pecans,β said kindergarten teacher Sydney Makowski. βToday is our big celebration.β
The morning began with a Texas-themed courtyard event hosted by the kindergarten team. Students rotated through activity stations that highlighted Texas culture and learning in a fun and interactive way, such as sack races, gold mining, bull riding, fill the trough, lasso the bull and more. The celebration wrapped up with a hot dog cook-out for kindergarten students and staff.

βDays like this remind us that learning should be full of joy,β said Principal Georgeanna Jones. βWhen our students are laughing, exploring, and celebrating what it means to be a proud Texan, theyβre not just having funβtheyβre building memories and a love for school that lasts a lifetime.β
Later in the afternoon, prekindergarten students took the stage in the cafeteria for a creative Alphabet Fashion Show. Each student selected a letter of the alphabet and proudly walked across the stage sharing their letter and what it represents.

The event gave young learners a chance to celebrate what theyβve been studying while building confidence and excitement about learning.
