Students at Woods Elementary School showed off their Lone Star pride during a fun-filled Texas Day celebration that combined hands-on learning with plenty of school spirit. The day was the culmination of a week of lessons focused on all things Texas for kindergarten students.

β€œWe have been talking all week long about all things Texas, whether it’s bluebonnets, longhorns, or pecans,” said kindergarten teacher Sydney Makowski. β€œToday is our big celebration.”

The morning began with a Texas-themed courtyard event hosted by the kindergarten team. Students rotated through activity stations that highlighted Texas culture and learning in a fun and interactive way, such as sack races, gold mining, bull riding, fill the trough, lasso the bull and more. The celebration wrapped up with a hot dog cook-out for kindergarten students and staff.

β€œDays like this remind us that learning should be full of joy,” said Principal Georgeanna Jones. β€œWhen our students are laughing, exploring, and celebrating what it means to be a proud Texan, they’re not just having funβ€”they’re building memories and a love for school that lasts a lifetime.”

Later in the afternoon, prekindergarten students took the stage in the cafeteria for a creative Alphabet Fashion Show. Each student selected a letter of the alphabet and proudly walked across the stage sharing their letter and what it represents.
