Douglas Elementary School celebrated a heartwarming tradition in memory of beloved former teacher Dorothy Dietering. Each year, Mrs. Bea Taylor, Mrs. Dieteringβs daughter, shares her motherβs love of reading by giving every kindergarten student a free book, continuing a legacy that has inspired generations of learners.
For more than a decade, Mrs. Taylor has carried on her motherβs dedication to literacy. Mrs. Dietering taught at Douglas Elementary for 27 years, leaving a lasting impact on students and staff through her passion for education.

During this yearβs event, all 85 kindergarten students received a book to encourage reading and celebrate Mrs. Dieteringβs legacy.
βWe are so thankful for Mrs. Bea Taylor,β Douglas Principal Christy Roach said. βHer gift to our kindergarteners truly emphasizes the importance of reading and makes a lasting impact.β

βMy mother went to college at the age of 49 and became a kindergarten teacher,β Taylor shared. βShe loved every one of her students. Giving a book to each kindergartener in her memory is my way of helping them believe they can do anything once they learn to read.β

This annual tradition not only honors a cherished educator but also inspires young readers to explore the world of books, keeping Mrs. Dieteringβs love of learning alive for future generations.
