TSPRA annually honors outstanding work by communicators in school districts, education foundations, associations, and organizations across Texas. Entries are evaluated in 57 categories spanning print and electronic media, including newsletters, programs, posters, reports, graphics, photography, video, electronic presentations, mobile apps, campaigns, events, and websites.

The Tyler ISD Communications Department is led by Chief Communications Officer Jennifer Hines, CPC.

Entries are divided into three divisions based on the number of students served: under 15,000; 15,000–40,000; and over 40,000. Independent judges score each submission on its own merit, awarding Bronze, Silver, and Gold Stars based on established criteria. Judges then select the highest-scoring Gold Star winners to receive a Best of Category award.
