Congratulations to JaShayla Humber, 5th grade student at Bell Elementary School, for being named the District Elementary Student of the Month.

JaShayla is recognized for her outstanding growth, leadership, and character. She exemplifies the qualities the district strives to instill in all students through her dedication to learning, service to others, and positive influence on her campus community.

Academically, JaShayla has demonstrated remarkable perseverance and commitment. She has worked tirelessly to improve her grades and consistently meetsβ€”and often exceedsβ€”her academic growth goals. Her strong work ethic is evident in her daily effort, positive attitude, and willingness to seek feedback and apply it to her learning. Her determination has led to meaningful progress and lasting success in the classroom.

Beyond academics, JaShayla is recognized for her maturity and exemplary behavior. She serves as a trusted classroom leader, taking her responsibilities seriously and setting a positive example for her peers. In her roles as class secretary and dojo monitor, JaShayla helps maintain an organized and productive learning environment by answering the classroom phone, managing behavior points with integrity, and assisting with classroom needs at the direction of her teacher.

JaShayla’s leadership extends beyond the classroom walls. She is an active member of the Bella Girls organization, where she participates in numerous community service projects. She also serves on Officer Turner’s Flag Team, faithfully raising and lowering the school flags each dayβ€”a responsibility that requires punctuality, reliability, and respect.

Perhaps most notably, JaShayla demonstrated extraordinary courage and compassion during a recent emergency on the playground. When a classmate collapsed and was struggling to breathe, she immediately alerted adults and ran ahead to open doors and clear hallways, ensuring her classmate received prompt medical attention. Her calm, quick-thinking response reflects her strong character and genuine care for others.

JaShayla Humber is an exceptional student whose integrity, leadership, academic growth, and compassion make her highly deserving of this honor.

The Tyler ISD District Students of the Month each receive a certificate and medal, sponsored by CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Health System.

Each month, Tyler ISD recognizes the exemplary efforts of two students, one from our elementary schools and one from our secondary schools, to be honored. Teachers and school principals submit nominations based on students' excellence in many areas, including academics, leadership, campus, and community involvement. These outstanding qualities lead to successful student outcomes both in and outside of the classroom.
