Tyler ISD is proud to spotlight the Tyler High School Archery Program. This growing initiative gives students the opportunity to develop focus, discipline, and leadership through the sport of archery.
Offered as part of Tyler High Schoolβs JROTC program, the archery program also includes after-school practices open to additional students across campus. The program currently serves approximately 18 students during practice sessions, with eight students having competed in their first tournament of the season.

βThis is the beginning of our season, so weβre excited to see how the students perform and grow,β said Samuel Tinker, Sergeant First Class, U.S. Army (Retired), and Tyler High School JROTC instructor. βThe interest has been strong, and we anticipate adding more students as the season continues.β
Students practice in the Tyler High School Junior Varsity Gym, where they refine their skills, learn proper technique, and build confidence in a supportive, team-centered environment. The program emphasizes responsibility, perseverance, and goal-settingβcore values that align with the mission of JROTC.

In addition to high school participation, the program is working to build a strong pipeline of future archers. Introductory archery sessions have already been held at Moore Middle School, with plans to visit Boulter Middle School to introduce younger students to the sport.
The Tyler High School Archery Program reflects Tyler ISDβs commitment to offering diverse extracurricular opportunities that engage students and support their overall development.
Under the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP), students in 4th -12th grades can learn and compete in tournaments. This can also lead to Archery scholarships at the university level; for example, Texas A&M offers a $2,000-per-semester scholarship for Archery.
