The honor recognizes campuses for exceptional academic achievement and progress in closing student performance gaps. During a special unveiling ceremony, students, staff, district leaders, and community partners gathered to commemorate this outstanding accomplishment.

Superintendent Dr. Marty Crawford read a proclamation from the City of Tyler honoring the achievement, along with remarks from Board President Yvonne Atkins, Board Member Eleno Licea, and Principal Amanda Hortman.

β€œEvery single student, staff member, and parent deserves this award for making the 'wise choice' to focus on academics and forego the typical high school experience by attending ECHS,” Principal Hortman said. β€œFrom the very first day I joined this campus five years ago, I knew this was a unique place where everyone belongs because we all have the same goal β€” successful student outcomes. Now, hundreds of diplomas and associate degrees later, I think we can confidently say we are achieving that goal.”

Adding to the celebration, Former Principal DelSenna Frazier attended the ceremony to witness the momentous occasion. Tyler Junior College (TJC) President Dr. Juan Mejia and members of his cabinet also joined in the event, recognizing the powerful partnership between Tyler ISD and TJC that provides students with the valuable opportunity to earn their associate’s degree while completing their high school education.

The Lone Star Ribbon Schools program replaces the former National Blue Ribbon Schools program, transitioning oversight to the state level to better reflect Texas priorities and values.

Early College High School continues to be recognized for its academic excellence, ranking as the No. 1 high school in East Texas by U.S. News & World Report. Through rigorous coursework and strong community partnerships, ECHS prepares students for success in higher education and future careers.
