Birdwell Dual Language Immersion School recently played its highly anticipated 4th Annual Copa Entre Generaciones (Generations Cup), a spirited soccer match that brings together students, staff, and families in a celebration of teamwork, culture, and community.

This year’s event received an exciting boost when Mexican soccer star OrbelΓn Pineda, who currently plays for AEK Athens in the Greek Super League, sent a special video shout-out to Birdwell students via social media, encouraging them to play hard and enjoy the game.

β€œThe energy this year has been incredible,” said Birdwell Principal Mina Naranjo. β€œWhen OrbelΓn Pineda sent his message, our students were thrilled. It’s a moment they’ll never forget β€” seeing one of their idols recognize what we’re doing here at Birdwell.”

The Copa Entre Generaciones has become one of Birdwell’s most anticipated traditions, promoting cultural immersion through one of Latin America’s most beloved sports β€” soccer. Throughout the week, students and teachers have taken to social media to share their excitement, friendly rivalries, and team spirit.

β€œThis match is more than just soccer,” added Naranjo. β€œIt’s about building community, embracing our cultures, and giving our students a sense of pride in who they are and where they come from.”

The annual event reflects Birdwell’s mission to integrate academic excellence with cultural appreciation. By fostering connections between students, families, and staff, the Copa Entre Generaciones continues to highlight the power of language, culture, and collaboration in education.
