Congratulations to our District Secondary Teacher of Month, Mel Silva, biology teacher at Early College High School.

A dedicated educator and campus leader, Mr. Silva wears many hats while maintaining his commitment to student success and school community.

Mr. Silva teaches 12th-grade Dual Credit Biology, providing students with college-level learning opportunities that prepare them for higher education. Beyond the classroom, he serves as the Science CILT, AP Coordinator, and Yearbook Coordinator, ensuring both academic excellence and a vibrant school culture.

His leadership extends into multiple student organizations, including his role as sponsor for STEM Club and Student Government. Under his direction, Student Government hosts some of the school’s most anticipated eventsβ€”such as the Fall Festival, Arts Fest, Winter Formal, and Promβ€”creating meaningful experiences that bring the campus together.

Mr. Silva’s dedication, organization, and passion for education have earned him recognition as a Distinguished Educator at The Night of Shining Stars multiple times. Known for his strong leadership and approachable nature, he is admired by both colleagues and students.

Through his teaching, mentorship, and tireless involvement, Mel Silva exemplifies the excellence and enthusiasm that define Tyler ISD educators.
