Tyler ISD is once again recognizing October as Fentanyl Awareness Month, reaffirming its commitment to student and staff safety. While fentanyl abuse has not been identified as an issue within the district, Tyler ISD continues to take proactive measures to ensure families are informed and prepared.
Tyler ISDβs goal is to provide a safe learning environment for every student and staff member and to have resources available to support the health and safety of our entire school community. Tyler ISD has implemented the following measures:
Partnerships with Local Authorities: Collaboration with law enforcement, emergency management, and health officials to monitor and address potential risks related to fentanyl.
Narcan Availability: Narcan, the life-saving medication that can reverse fentanyl overdoses, is stocked at all campuses. Nurses, administrators, and district police officers are trained and prepared to administer it in case of an emergency.
Educational Awareness: School nurses, counselors, principals, and curriculum leaders continue to provide educational opportunities for students and families. Awareness campaigns may include assemblies, classroom lessons, posters, and resources that highlight the dangers of fentanyl.
Anonymous Reporting: Through the districtβs StopIt tool, students and parents can anonymously report concerns about fentanyl or other safety issues.
Parents are encouraged to visit the districtβs fentanyl awareness webpage for valuable resources, including signs of an overdose and how to respond quickly and effectively.
By partnering with local experts and making resources readily available, Tyler ISD continues to prioritize the health and safety of its school community.
