The Tyler ISD Athletic Department is proud to announce the first inductee into the 2025 Athletic Hall of Fame. Mr. Nic Redwine was recognized during halftime of the Tyler Legacy vs. Texas High football game on August 28 at CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium for his outstanding high school and collegiate football career.
Redwine, a 2004 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School (REL), was an all-state football player for the Red Raiders, garnering accolades that were among the best in the state of Texas. Redwine earned a scholarship to The University of Texas (UT), where they won a National Championship during his time with the Longhorns.
Redwine, who played under the late Mike Owens while at REL, made a large impact on Red Raiders squads that made perennial deep playoff runs during the early 2000βs. He helped lead the 2002 team to a district championship, and a trip to the state semifinals. The future Longhorn cemented his status as one of the top defensive players in the state in 2003, posting 131 tackles, 20 tackles for loss, and nine sacks in his final two seasons as a Red Raider. As a senior, he earned First Team All-State, All-East Texas, and All-District honors. He was also a team captain, voted Team Defensive MVP, and his play earned him a spot on Dave Campbellβs Texas Football 2nd Team All-Texas Super Team. He was considered a top 300 recruit in the country (ESPN) and landed on the Texas Top 100 list.
Redwine played five seasons at The University of Texas, winning a National Championship during his redshirt freshman season in 2005. Redwine helped on both sides of the ball for the Longhorns, playing linebacker and defensive end on the defensive side of the ball, and playing at fullback on offense. He was a part of four other bowl-winning teams at UT, including the Rose Bowl (2004), the Alamo Bowl (2006, 2007), and the Fiesta Bowl (2008). He was also an excellent student in the classroom, named a three-time member of the UT Athletic Directorβs Honor Roll.
Today, Nic is a devoted husband to his wife, Brittany, and their two daughters, Kennedi and Charleigh. He thanked his high school position coach, Willie Williams, as well as the entire staff at REL, as well as his parents, Roderick and Rhyne.
