Early College High School (ECHS) is celebrating its latest recognition by U.S. News & World Report as one of the best high schools in the country and the top-ranked high school in East Texas. On the 2025β2026 Best High Schools list, ECHS earned an impressive overall score of 95.14 out of 100, ranking #807 nationally out of 17,901 schools and #107 in Texas out of 1,578 schools. This month, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) also released its ratings, scoring ECHS at a 99 with an A rating.
The U.S. News & World Report rankings measure high schools across the nation using key indicators such as college readiness, graduation rates, and student proficiency in math and reading. ECHSβs strong performance across these categories highlights its dedication to academic excellence and student achievement.
βWe are thrilled to receive this recognition from U.S. News & World Report,β said ECHS Principal Amanda Hortman. βThis accomplishment reflects the hard work of our students, teachers, and staff, as well as the success of our Early College program in preparing students for both higher education and future careers.β
ECHS provides students with the opportunity to earn a free associate degree from Tyler Junior College (TJC) while completing their high school diplomaβa degree valued at more than $30,000. Students have access to more than 40 dual credit courses and 12 degree pathways, giving them a significant head start on their college journey.
βPeople ask me what the secret to our success is, and itβs truly no secret,β added Mrs. Hortman. βWe are united in doing whatever it takes to ensure every student crosses the finish line, no matter their circumstances.β
