School Board Meeting

The Tyler ISD Board of Trustees will hold a School Board Meeting on Monday, August 25 at 7:00 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Plyler Instructional Complex, Dr. Jack L. Davidson Conference Center at 807 W. Glenwood, Tyler, TX.

Board Service

As the governing body of the Tyler Independent School District, the Board of Trustees is comprised of seven members.  Each board member is elected by single-member districts and serves staggered 3-year terms.  Members serve without compensation, must be qualified voters, reside in the district to which they are elected, and conform to the eligibility requirements of the Texas Education Code and Texas Election Code.

Board Responsibilities
Board responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • To be legally responsible for the education of the children in the District;

  • To make school district policy decisions regarding Tyler ISD’s operation;

  • To provide tax monies for maintenance and operation of the schools;

  • To submit bond issues to the residents of the District;

  • To govern local school matters, subject to limitations imposed by state and federal laws;

  • To hire the superintendent as its chief administrator and executive officer.
