Congratulations to Melinda Nguyen, a senior at Legacy High School and graphic design student at the Career & Technology Center, for being named the District Secondary Student of the Month for February.

Melinda's achievements extend beyond the typical high school experience, showcasing her dedication to graphic design and innovation. This past summer, Melinda took her passion for design overseas to Vietnam. She then took those observations and techniques and applied them to design this year.

Melinda is a dual credit student and certified as a professional in Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop. Recently, she discovered an Adobe Illustrator technique that her teacher had not seen in his 25+years of program use. Recognizing the need to share her newfound knowledge, she took the initiative to teach a class using her own lesson plan.

Throughout the school year, Melinda has assumed the role of a class ambassador, providing continuous support to her fellow students by assisting with design projects.

Adding another feather to her cap, Melinda secured a paid internship, further demonstrating her ability to translate classroom learning into real-world opportunities. This internship not only validates her skills but also allows her to gain practical experience in a professional setting.

Congratulations, Melinda!

The Tyler ISD District Students of the Month each receive a certificate and medal, sponsored by CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Health System.

Each month, Tyler ISD recognizes the exemplary efforts of two students, one from our elementary schools and one from our secondary schools, to be honored. Teachers and school principals submit nominations based on students' excellence in many areas, including academics, leadership, campus, and community involvement. These outstanding qualities lead to successful student outcomes both in and outside of the classroom.
