This week, over 1,300 eager Tyler ISD 8th graders visited the Career & Technology Center (CTC) for the annual CTE Exploration event.

Representing various Tyler ISD middle schools, the students arrived in set blocks of time, ready to immerse themselves in a world of possibilities. The CTC, a hub of innovation and learning, was transformed into a haven of exploration. The air was charged with curiosity as the young minds prepared to embark on a journey of discovery.

The day kicked off with students introduced to the diverse array of programs awaiting their exploration. From audio/video technology to animal science , engineering, plumbing, and welding, the students were about to witness the vast spectrum of class options available within Tyler ISD.

Guided by enthusiastic high school students, the 8th graders embarked on a comprehensive tour of the facilities, getting a firsthand look at the state-of-the-art equipment and resources that would soon become integral to their learning journey. The CTC, typically a realm of high school education, opened its doors wide to welcome these soon-to-be freshmen, offering them a glimpse of the exciting path ahead.

The highlight of the day was the student-led Program of Study Fair, where each program area had its own booth manned by knowledgeable high school students. As the 8th graders meandered through the fair, they had the unique opportunity to engage in conversations with these mentors. They asked questions, shared aspirations, and gained insights into the various programs offered at the CTC.

Tyler ISD, with its forward-thinking approach, recognizes the importance of early planning. In January, these 8th graders will be tasked with crafting their high school four-year plans—a roadmap to their educational future. To equip them for this task, the incoming 9th graders will take a CTE Principles class during their first year. This class will serve as an invaluable overview, helping them make informed decisions about their chosen program.

In total, Tyler ISD offers an impressive selection of 24 Programs of Study, each designed to cater to the diverse interests and ambitions of its students. The CTE Exploration event not only exposed these young minds to the opportunities that await them but also ignited a passion for learning and exploration.
