Orr Elementary Head Start students were able to check out library books for the 1st time today.  The library has been able to build a small library of board books for Head Start students to select a book, and check out one book,  they will build leadership skills by keeping that book in the classroom for one week and then returning it to the library.

A Head Start student checking out a library book marks a significant step in their early education journey, fostering a love for reading and exploration. The act of selecting a book from the library not only introduces them to the world of literature but also nurtures essential cognitive and language development skills.

Libraries in Head Start programs play a vital role in creating a rich learning environment. As these young learners choose a book, they engage in decision-making, enhancing their autonomy and independence. The library becomes a treasure trove of possibilities, where each book opens doors to new ideas, characters, and experiences.

Checking out a library book is more than just borrowing; it's an introduction to responsibility. Head Start students learn to handle books with care, understanding that they are valuable resources for learning. This early exposure to library etiquette lays the foundation for good reading habits and respect for shared resources.

Moreover, the interaction with library staff during the checkout process contributes to the social development of Head Start students. It builds a sense of community within the school, fostering positive connections with educators and encouraging a curiosity that extends beyond the classroom.
