This week, 361 Tyler ISD teachers were surprised with the prestigious TOP (Tyler Optimal Performance) Teacher designation, resulting in $4,365,127 in additional compensation from the state. The designation is part of Tyler ISDβs Approved Local Designation System under the stateβs Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA), created by House Bill 3 to attract and retain highly effective educators.
To earn a TOP Teacher designation, educators must meet rigorous criteria, including student growth metrics, attendance, teacher observation data, and student surveys.

Of the 361 honorees, 179 were newly designated or earned a higher level, and 182 maintained a previous designation. Designated teachers receive annual awards ranging from $3,500 to $26,500, based on designation level and campus eligibility. Under the districtβs system, 85% of the allotment goes to the designated teacher; 5% is shared with non-designated teachers at their campus, and 10% is retained by the district for program sustainability.

βThe continued expansion of our TOP Teacher program highlights the exceptional work happening in classrooms across Tyler ISD every day,β said Executive Director of Human Resources Sheri Taylor. βThese designations recognize educators who consistently make a difference for students through strong instruction, dedication, and leadership, while also providing meaningful incentives that support retaining outstanding teachers in our district.β
