Students in the Future Leaders of Tyler (FLT) program gathered for their seventh session at the Career & Technology Center, where the focus turned to one of the regionβs most vital industriesβhealthcare. The session brought real-world insight to life as local professionals shared their experiences, challenges, and opportunities within the field.

Representatives from CHRISTUS Health, UT Health East Texas, and Baylor Scott & White Texas Spine and Joint Hospital served on a panel, offering students a firsthand look at careers ranging from patient care to administration. Panelists discussed the growing demand for healthcare professionals, advancements in medical technology, and the importance of compassionate care in serving the community.
Fifty junior and senior students from Tyler High School, Legacy High School, and Early College High School were selected earlier this year for their leadership potential and commitment to service. Throughout the session, students engaged in thoughtful dialogue, asking questions about career pathways, education requirements, and how healthcare systems collaborate to meet community needs.

Executive Director of the Tyler Area Business Education Council LaToya Young praised the groupβs continued growth and engagement, noting that students have embraced each session with curiosity and purpose. She highlighted their willingness to ask meaningful questions and provide valuable feedback, emphasizing that their insight is helping shape and strengthen the program while demonstrating their readiness to lead and make a difference in the future of Tyler.
FLT members will continue monthly meetings featuring panels, site visits, and hands-on learning designed to prepare them as tomorrowβs leaders in government, business, and community service.

Launched by the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce in partnership with Tyler ISD and the Business Education Council, the program remains committed to fostering civic responsibility and leadership across East Texas.
