Tyler ISD proudly announces that Early College High School (ECHS) has been named a 2025 Lone Star Ribbon School by Governor Greg Abbott. This prestigious recognition honors Texas schools for outstanding academic performance and notable progress in closing achievement gaps.

Governor Abbott announced that 28 schools across Texas received the distinction this year. β€œTexas is on the pathway to become No. 1 in educating our children,” Governor Abbott said. β€œToday, we recognize the Texas schools whose hard work from teachers, staff, and parents are helping our students achieve academic excellence. Texas will continue to invest in our schools to improve performance and better prepare Texans for the workforce. I congratulate the 28 campuses who are now 2025 Lone Star Ribbon Schools. Together, we will chart a path toward a bigger, brighter Texas.”

Early College High School’s dedication to academic achievement, student growth, and community engagement exemplifies the qualities recognized by this award. The district celebrates the teachers, staff, students, and families who contributed to this remarkable accomplishment.

"I cannot begin to express how honored I am to be the principal of this great school,” ECHS Principal Amanda Hortman said. β€œEvery single student, staff member, and parent deserves this award for making the 'wise choice,' to focus on academics and attend ECHS. From the moment I stepped foot on campus five years ago, I knew that ECHS was unique - a place where everyone belongs because we all have the same goal, both staff and students alike, 'Successful Student Outcomes.' Now, hundreds of diplomas and associate degrees later, I think I can safely say before an audience that we are attaining those outcomes."

The Lone Star Ribbon Schools program replaces the National Blue Ribbon Schools initiative, with oversight now under the state of Texas. This change allows the program to better reflect local priorities and values, ensuring that decisions about honoring excellence in Texas education are made by those who know Texas schools best.
