Chef Aarin Bridges, of the Career and Technology Center in Tyler ISD, worked with his Advanced Culinary students to understand the imperative nature of cleaning hands before working with food. Students worked in groups through a simulation wherein they selected a culinary term out of bowl, then some groups cold-washed hands, some did not wash hands, and others executed industry-standard cleaned hands. To gain insight on the level of bacteria that remained on their hands , Chef Bridges used a black light as students held their hands underneath. Culinary students gained a new perspective on the importance of proper hand-washing.
