The Caldwell Student Council (StuCo) has kicked off its annual Canned Food Drive/Pantry Raid to benefit the East Texas Food Bank, in partnership with Tyler ISD. This important community service project gives Caldwell students and families an opportunity to help provide food to local families in need while also bringing a little friendly competition to our campus!
This year’s food drive has a new competitive twist—and StuCo is excited about it! The campus that collects the greatest total weight of food will earn a Kona Ice celebration. That means every can and every donation can make a difference as we work together toward our goal.
The East Texas Food Bank has specifically requested canned meats such as tuna, turkey, ham, and chicken, as well as peanut butter and soups. Please note that the food bank is not requesting rice or beans at this time.
Students have several incentives to get involved. At the campus level, StuCo will sponsor a pizza party or donut party—the winning homeroom/advisory gets to choose! For middle school students, donating 20 cans earns either a free 100 or extra credit, along with House points. Elementary students can earn House points for their donations as well.
Students who would like to contribute but do not have physical canned goods can also donate money in place of canned items. Mrs. Butler has graciously volunteered to keep track of students who make monetary donations, and House points will be awarded for these contributions as well.
All donations should be brought to Mrs. Ellexson’s room or Mrs. Fridie’s room.
The Canned Food Drive will officially end on Wednesday, September 2, at 8:00 a.m.
