During Ms. Olalde's 1st grade Social Studies lesson, students learned about Hispanic Heritage Month by exploring the diverse cultures, traditions, and customs of Hispanic communities. Students learned how families celebrate by making a piñata that they decorated themselves and filled with candy to take home and celebrate with their families.

La Raspa brought culture, color, and tradition to Birdwell this morning! 🇲🇽💃🎶 Our students looked amazing dressed in authentic Hispanic folkwear as we came together to celebrate the rich traditions of Hispanic culture during Hispanic Heritage Month. 🔬🧪 Science in Action: Mixtures and Solutions! Our students are having a great time exploring how mixtures can be separated during our Mixtures and Solutions unit in science. A mixture is a combination of two or more substances that retain their own physical properties and can be separated using different methods. Today, students investigated the learning goal: “I can investigate what happens to matter when it is combined in mixtures and then separated back into its original substances.” Through hands-on exploration, students observed how matter changes when substances are mixed and discovered different ways to separate those mixtures. Learning science through inquiry and investigation helps students develop critical thinking skills while making meaningful connections to the world around them! 🌎✨ #ScienceLearning #MixturesAndSolutions #HandsOnLearning #FutureScientists #STEMEducation #LearningByDoing

Today, our Birdwell students proudly wore red, white, and blue as we observed Patriot Day and remembered the events of September 11, 2001. We honor the lives lost, recognize the courage of first responders and everyday heroes, and reflect on the importance of unity, kindness, courage, and service to others. 🇺🇸

We are so proud of these amazing Birdwell students for starting the school year strong and showing what it means to be a Birdwell leader! 📚💙 Your hard work, positive attitudes, and commitment to doing your best have not gone unnoticed.

Our Birdwell PTA helped us celebrate in the sweetest way by providing breakfast and coffee for our staff in honor of Birdwell continuing our A rating! 🎉⭐ We are so thankful for a PTA that continually supports, encourages, and celebrates our teachers and staff. It truly takes a village, and we are blessed to have the BEST! 💙

This week, Ms. Pujol's class read "We Are (Not) Friends" and talked about the importance of being kind, including everyone, never leaving anyone alone, and taking care of one another. Our students also made friendship bracelets for their friends as a special reminder that friendship is all about kindness, caring, and making others feel loved and included! 📚✨🧵

Our Birdwell middle school students had the opportunity to experience our NEW Makerspace area after completing their library lesson and book checkout! From exploring hands-on activities to creating, building, and problem-solving, students were excited to see all the possibilities this new space has to offer. 🧩⚙️💡 The Makerspace gives our students a place to turn their curiosity into creativity while developing collaboration, critical-thinking, and STEM skills. We can’t wait to see what our Birdwell students create this year! 💙📚

Ms. Pujol’s class explored fine motor skills and emotions through The Color Monster! 🌈 Students used creativity and hands-on activities to identify, express, and understand their feelings while strengthening those important little muscles in their hands. What a wonderful way to combine social-emotional learning, literacy, and fine motor development all in one engaging experience! 💙💚💛❤️

Congratulations to Tania Maldonado, Mauro Ortega, and Maite Betancourt of Birdwell Dual Language Immersion School for being honored at the School Board Meeting for their outstanding achievement in the Regional District-Level Spanish Spelling Bee! 🐝📚

Our young scientists created their very own mini lava lamps while exploring the fascinating concept of relative density. Through this fun, hands-on experiment, students observed how different liquids behave based on their density—and they had a bubbling good time learning along the way! 🌋🔬 Learning is even more exciting when you can see science in action!
