Root Certificate

Tyler ISD requires devices install a Root Certificate to use network services effectively and securely. If you choose not to install the provided certificate, multiple websites may or may not work correctly.

Please install and trust the root certificate on your device. The certificate can be downloaded here:

Apple Device Guest Access Instructions

This certificate works on all major operating systems and device types including Windows, MacOS, iOS, Android, etc. Instructions for the different device operating systems are listed below.

Device specific instructions for installing the certificate:

Internet Explorer (Win 7 and Win 8)

  1. Visit https://www.tylerisd.org/cert

  2. Click the 'Root Certificate' button

  3. Click 'Open' to open the downloaded certificate

  4. Click 'Install Certificate'

  5. Click 'Next'

  6. Click 'Place all certificates in the following store'

  7. Click 'Browse'

  8. Choose 'Trusted Root Certification Authorities'

  9. Click 'OK'

  10. Click 'Next'

  11. Click 'Finish'

  12. Click 'Yes' to install the certificate

  13. Click 'OK' twice

Firefox

  1. Visit https://www.tylerisd.org/cert

  2. Save the file to your computer

  3. In Firefox Options, go to 'Advanced' then 'Certificates' then 'View Certificates'

  4. Click the "Authorities" tab

  5. Click the 'Import' button and select the file you just downloaded

  6. Check the box beside 'Trust this CA to identify websites'

  7. Click 'OK' and 'OK'

iPhone/iPad

  1. Visit https://www.tylerisd.org/cert in Safari

  2. Touch the 'Root Certificate' button

  3. Click 'Install' to trust the Root CA

  4. Enter your device passcode if prompted

  5. Click 'Install' again, and then 'Install' a final time

  6. If you still have an issue: 
    Go to settings->General->About->Certificate Trust Settings
    Make sure ContentKeeper Appliance CA is enabled.

Chromebook/Chrome

  1. Visit https://www.tylerisd.org/cert

  2. Click the 'Root Certificate' button

  3. In the Chrome address bar type: chrome://settings/certificates

  4. Click the 'Authorities' tab

  5. Click the 'Import' button

    1. Change the file type filter to 'All Files' at the bottom left

  6. Select the ‘ckroot.crt' file that you downloaded in step 2, and click 'Open'

  7. Check the 'Trust this certificate for identifying websites'

  8. Click 'OK'

  9. Click 'Done'

Chrome on OS X (Macintosh Computers)

  1. Visit https://www.tylerisd.org/cert in Chrome

  2. Click the 'Root Certificate' button

  3. Open the 'Keychain Access' application

  4. Select the ‘System Keychain’ from the list on the left

  5. On the top menu bar, select ‘File’ then ‘Import Items…’

  6. In the open file dialog, navigate to your Downloads folder and select ‘ckroot.crt’. Verify the ‘Destination Keychain’ is ‘System’ in the dropdown at the bottom of the open file dialog. Click ‘Open’.

  7. Enter your Mac's admin username and password if prompted

  8. Double click the ‘ContentKeeper Appliance CA’ certificate in the list.

  9. Expand the ‘Trust’ section and change ‘When using this certificate’ to ‘Always Trust’.

  10. Close the certificate dialog

  11. Quit the Keychain Application

Chrome on Windows (PC Desktop/Laptops)

  1. Visit https://www.tylerisd.org/cert in Chrome

  2. Click the 'Root Certificate' button to download file (ckroot.crt)

  3. Double click the downloaded file (ckroot.crt)

  4. Click 'Install Certificate' in the Certificate window

  5. Click ‘Next' on the Import Wizard to select current user

  6. Select the ‘Place all certificates in the follow store’ option

  7. Click ‘Browse’

  8. Select ‘Trusted Root Certification Authorities’ and Click ‘OK’

  9. Click ‘Next’ and then ‘Finish'

  10. You should see "The import was successful", Click OK

  11. Exit the wizard (click x)

  12. Close all Chrome browser windows

  13. Re-Open Chrome

Android

You must set a screen unlock PIN or password for Android to allow the steps below

  1. Visit https://www.tylerisd.org/cert in Chrome

  2. Click the 'Root Certificate' button

  3. In the 'Certificate name' field enter 'ck'

  4. In the 'Credential use' field, leave the selection at 'VPN and apps'

  5. Click 'OK'

Mac

  1. Visit https://www.tylerisd.org/cert in Safari

  2. Click the 'Root Certificate' button

  3. Open the 'Keychain Access' application

  4. Select the 'System Keychain' from the list on the left

  5. On the top menu bar, select 'File' then 'Import Items...'

  6. In the open file dialog box, navigate to your Downloads folder and select "ckroot.crt"

  7. Verify the 'Destination Keychain' is 'login' in the dropdown at the bottom of the open file dialog

  8. Click Open

  9. Enter your Mac's username and password if prompted

  10. If KeychainAccess is not open, open it and select the "Login" Keychain

  11. Double click the ‘ContentKeeper Appliance CA' certificate in the list

  12. Expand the 'Trust' section and change 'When using this certificate' to 'Always Trust'

  13. Close the Certificate dialog

  14. Quit the 'Keychain Access' Application
