Michelle Gandy

The Texas Council of Teachers of Mathematics (TCTM) is a professional organization that encourages an active interest in mathematics. TCTM publishes a journal called The Texas Mathematics Teacher.

Through this publication and the annual Conference for the Advancement of Mathematics Teaching (CAMT), educators can study and increase their knowledge of effective teaching practices in mathematics.

The organization chose Tyler ISD Mathematics Coordinator Michelle Gandy as Northeast Regional Director. "I am honored to be the Northeast Regional Director of TCTM, supporting math educators in ESC Regions 7, 8, 10, and 11," said Ms. Gandy. "This is a two-year term during which I will collaborate with the district, university, and ESC representatives to advance the mission of TCTM. My greatest joy is supporting teachers as they guide students to reach their potential. I am excited to lend my experience to this organization promoting math education for 70 years."

TCTM's mission focuses on five areas: recruit and retain mathematics teachers, support curriculum and instruction, advocate education policy, communicate with teachers, and serve as the Texas partner affiliate to the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM)

"Michelle is instrumental in leading our curriculum and assessment efforts in mathematics for Tyler ISD and now representing our district and region in these efforts," said Chief Academic Officer Lani Norman. "We are excited about this opportunity for Michelle to share her knowledge, skills, and all she will gain from this network.  Tyler ISD will benefit, and she will be able to add great insight to this network and share all the wonderful things Tyler ISD is doing!"
