Tyler ISD and Trane Technologies partnered with Project Scientist on an adventure for local girls who may grow up to be engineers, scientists, technology wizards, or mathematicians. The theme for the one-week program for girls ages 7 to 13 is “Smash it, bend it, melt it! Let’s get to work, material engineers!” Girls will put a variety of items to the test. They’ll see how objects react to heavy weight and extreme stress for a critical understanding of the concept of material durability.
The students will enjoy hands-on activities and experiments with Project Scientist. Project Scientist strengthens girls’ self-assurance and sense of belonging in a supportive environment with friends who are interested in learning. They see the relevance of STEM in their lives and communities and feel empowered to make an impact.

A national non-profit, Project Scientist ignites and cultivates girls’ confidence in their abilities in science, technology, engineering, and math through summer and after-school programs. Women fill nearly half the jobs in the U.S., but they hold less than 25% of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) jobs, according to the U.S. Department of Commerce. Project Scientist provides summer and after-school STEM programs to help close this national gender gap.
Trane Technologies’ partnership with Project Scientist is part of its corporate citizenship strategy, Sustainable Futures, which focuses on providing students underrepresented in STEM fields with access to education and resources for pursuing green and STEM careers.
