female high school student places socks into a box labled, "sock drive"

Tyler Legacy High School Freshmen Student Council was tasked with a community service project this semester and chose to have a sock drive due to the cold winter conditions to help those in need.

"Socks symbolize comfort; something everyone deserves to have, especially during the cruel winter season,” Tyler Legacy Freshman Ambassador Fabiola Caraballo said.

Overall, the students collected 138 pairs of socks. The sock drive a first-time project, and the same students sponsored a blanket drive during the fall semester.

"Seeing the joy and impact that was caused by our blanket drive last semester gave us a sense of comfort and accomplishment that inspired us to give back to the community again because we knew we could make people happy again," Freshman Ambassador Max Payne added.

"This is the first year we're including freshmen in our student leadership, and the executive officers are very pleased with how far they've come and how adaptable they can be,” Student Council President Kawsar Yasin said.  “They transitioned from middle school to take a big role in high school within a year.  They are setting themselves up to become effective leaders later on, and we can't wait to see the direction they take Student Council as they continue to lead within the organization."
