Congratulations to Myriam Hernandez, a 6th grade student at Birdwell Dual Language Immersion school, for being named the District Secondary Student of the Month for September.

Myriam is a shining example of proactive leadership in both her academic and personal life. She embodies the philosophy of taking initiative, responsibility, and control over her actions and decisions. Whether it's tackling challenging coursework, engaging with peers and teachers, or stepping up to be a peer leader in the newly introduced middle school program, Sources of Strength, Myriam consistently demonstrates her commitment to making things happen.

In addition to her school responsibilities, Myriam's leadership extends to her family, where she serves as a guiding force among her siblings. Her ability to take the lead, seek solutions, and create opportunities not only sets her apart but also serves as an inspiration to those around her. As Myriam embarks on this new school year, there's no doubt that her proactive approach will continue to make a positive impact, both within the classroom and in the broader community.

The Tyler ISD District Students of the Month each receive a certificate and medal, sponsored by CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Health System.

Each month, Tyler ISD recognizes the exemplary efforts of two students, one from our elementary schools and one from our secondary schools, to be honored. Teachers and school principals submit nominations based on students' excellence in many areas, including academics, leadership, campus, and community involvement. These outstanding qualities lead to successful student outcomes both in and outside of the classroom.
