Health Services

The Tyler ISD Health Services Staff believes that the ability to learn at school is directly related to a student's health status. Our goal is to strengthen and facilitate the educational process by providing services that contribute to a student's achievement and maintain optimal health.

In simpler terms, our team of nurses wants your child to be as healthy as possible because healthy students have healthy and successful outcomes.

Medication Administration

A signed Administration of Medication Form from the parent/guardian, is required for each medication. Medication must be in the original properly labeled container with clear and legible instructions. Medication that is past the expiration date or has a prescription date that has expired will not be accepted. Medication in baggies, or medication sent only in blister packs, will not be accepted.

Parent/guardian must bring all medication to the school clinic. All medication will be entered into inventory by parent/guardian and the school nurse or campus authorized staff.

School Health Advisory Council (SHAC)

SHAC is a council that assists the district in ensuring that local community values are reflected in our health education instruction. The specific duties of SHAC include making recommendations related to health education curriculum and hours of instruction, nutrition and fitness education, appropriate methods for the instruction of human sexuality (sexual health), and strategies for a coordinated school health and safety program.

Stop the BLEED

The focus of this program is on the immediate response to bleeding, recognizing life-threatening bleeding, and appropriate ways to stop the bleeding.

The help given by an immediate responder can often make the difference between life and death, even before professional rescuers arrive.

With the right training, YOU can help save lives!

What Everyone Should Know to Control Bleeding

Over 150 people die every day from overdoses related to synthetic opioids like fentanyl

Fentanyl Awareness

Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is up to 50 times stronger than heroin and 100 times stronger than morphine. You cannot see it, taste it, or smell it.

We have partnered with local law enforcement, emergency management, and health authorities to monitor and collaborate on the best way to combat the fentanyl crisis.

We stock Narcan at all campuses. Narcan, administered quickly enough, can help reverse the effects of a fentanyl overdose.

Vaping

Vaping has become one of the most popular forms of substance use among young people, despite growing evidence of its health risks and harms. The more immediate health effects include coughing and wheezing, behavioral and mood changes, headaches, seizures, vomiting, and potential severe lung injury. Vaping also negatively affects teens’ attention, learning, and impulse control in a way that can affect them in school, sports, and social situations. Nearly all vapes contain nicotine, one of the most addictive substances, and in many cases, as much as or more than in traditional cigarettes. According to federal law and many state and local laws, vaping is illegal for anyone under the age of 21.
