Students from Tyler ISD’s Boshears Center enjoyed a festive and empowering holiday experience during this year’s Mostyn Moreno Foundation Christmas Lights shopping excursion. The annual program provided Boshears Center Life Skills students with a meaningful opportunity to practice real-world skills while embracing the joy of the season.

On December 4, students arrived at the Walmart Supercenter on Highway 64 West, where each received a $50 gift card to independently select Christmas gifts for family members or themselves. Guided by teachers, staff, and volunteers, students used the experience to strengthen budgeting, math, and decision-making skillsβ€”skills that are central to the Boshears Center’s commitment to fostering independence.

After shopping, students and their families gathered at the Family Life Center at West Erwin Church of Christ for a catered lunch, holiday fellowship, and a special visit from Santa Claus. Laughter, excitement, and proud smiles filled the room as students shared their purchases and celebrated their accomplishments.

The Mostyn Moreno Foundation, created in honor of longtime educator Glenda Jean Mostyn, continues to champion meaningful learning experiences for students with special needs across East Texas. Its support ensures that Boshears Center students not only learn essential life skills but also create warm holiday memories that will last long beyond the season.
