Boshears Busy Little Bees exploring hats

From September 15 to October 15, people across the United States come together to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month, paying tribute to the rich cultures and significant contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans. In the heart of this nationwide celebration, the Busy Little Bees at the Boshears Center embarked on a sensory journey to explore the essence of Hispanic cultures.

Immersing themselves in the festivities, these young learners delved into the vibrant tapestry of Hispanic traditions. They danced to the rhythms of Spanish versions of their favorite songs, making language learning a delightful experience. Their senses were further awakened as they touched soft velvet, admired shiny sequins, and marveled at colorful threads while donning Mexican charro sombreros.

Taking a virtual trip around the globe, the Busy Little Bees also examined a beautifully woven alpaca wool blanket, originating from the highlands of Peru. This hands-on experience allowed them to appreciate the artistry and craftsmanship behind each thread.

To culminate their celebration, the students explored the culinary heritage of Hispanic cultures by touching and tasting avocados, which they skillfully smashed using a "molcajete," a traditional Mexican mortar and pestle.

As the month progresses, on September 29, 2023, the Busy Little Bees will craft "experience stories" to take home and share with their parents, ensuring that the spirit of Hispanic Heritage Month continues to resonate within their hearts and homes. This celebration not only fosters cultural awareness but also encourages a sense of unity and appreciation for diversity among these young minds.
