4th grade students acting out fables.

Fourth grade students at Owens Elementary have been putting their creativity, teamwork, and storytelling skills to work as they explore the world of fables! Mrs. Jenkins’ and Mrs. Dass’ classes have been learning about the important lessons that fables teach while discovering how stories can come to life through acting and imagination.

As part of their classroom learning, students have been studying fables, which are short stories that often feature animals as characters and teach a meaningful moral or life lesson. Through reading and discussing these stories, students have been identifying story elements, exploring character traits, and thinking about how the lessons in fables connect to their own lives.

One of the highlights of this learning experience was bringing the classic fable The Tortoise and the Hare to life! Students stepped into the roles of the story’s memorable characters and acted out the familiar tale of a speedy hare who becomes overconfident and a determined tortoise who never gives up. Their performance gave students an opportunity to use expression, movement, and creativity to retell the story in an exciting and engaging way.

The story of the tortoise and the hare teaches an important lesson: slow and steady wins the race! Students explored how hard work, patience, perseverance, and determination can make a difference, even when the odds seem stacked against us.

By combining literacy with hands-on learning, Mrs. Jenkins and Mrs. Dass are helping their students make meaningful connections to the stories they study. Owens Elementary is proud of these fourth grade learners for embracing the opportunity to learn, perform, and have fun along the way!
