In celebration of literacy and the joy of reading, students across the district were in for a big treat today for World Read Aloud Day. Community members, such as Mayor Don Warren, along with the TJC Soccer Team, a local author, and others, visited campuses to share their love of reading and inspire the students to read. Word Read Aloud Day is a fun opportunity to bring in community members, current students, and local business owners to show the importance of reading and promoting literacy.

“It is good for students to not only see their friends and family reading but to see the importance of reading, especially through positive role models in the community,” Owens Elementary School librarian Tori Dennie said.

World Read Aloud Day is always the first Wednesday in February. This designated day is not only to encourage reading but to practice reading aloud.

Across the district, students gathered around guest readers as they read aloud a book from the school library. Bringing students back to the time before writing and when storytelling was the way stories were passed down from generation to generation. After story time was over, students got to ask the guest readers questions about the book and what their favorite book was to read.
