❄️🐧 Learning About the Arctic in Mrs. Mark’s Class! 🐻‍❄️❄️

Mrs. Mark’s class is diving into Reading TEKS 1.6G by exploring texts about the Arctic habitat! Students worked on making and confirming predictions as they read, using text features and illustrations to identify characteristics of Arctic environments and the animals that live there.

The best part? 🧊💦 Students got hands-on by experiencing ice water to better understand how Arctic animals use special features—like thick fur and blubber—to stay warm. It was a fun and engaging way to bring learning to life!

A big shoutout to Mrs. Matamoros’s 1st-grade class for being the overall winners of our Feather Competition! 🪶💃 And a round of applause for Mrs. Key’s 3rd-grade class, the 3-5 winners! 🏆

Both grade levels will get to shake their tail feathers at a special dance party, and Mrs. Matamoros’ and Mrs. Key’s classes will enjoy a special lunch in the library after Thanksgiving break.

As a school, we sold over 10,000 feathers! 💰🙌 Thank you to our amazing parents for helping make this happen – that is truly ORR-mazing!

Our amazing 4th graders created beautiful shoebox ofrendas to honor loved ones and celebrate this special tradition. Each ofrenda was full of creativity, color, and meaningful touches—showing respect, remembrance, and the joy of life. 🌼🕯️✨

✨ And last, but certainly not least…we concluded this Monday at the monthly Tyler ISD School Board Meeting by celebrating our District's Elementary Teacher of the Month – Mrs. Maria Anza Goni! 🎉 Mrs. Anza Goni is a visiting teacher from Spain who, in just two years, has reached the highest level of mastery in the Top Teacher program. Her dedication and hard work have made a huge impact—she has dramatically increased the passing rate in 3rd grade bilingual reading STAAR scores from 63% to 87%! 📚👏 We are so proud to honor Mrs. Anza Goni and the incredible work she is doing for our students. ¡Felicidades! 💙🤍

📚🦁 Orr Elementary had some special visitors on Friday! The Tyler High Lion football players came to read to our students ahead of their big game.

Even though the Lions didn’t take home the victory on the field, they reminded us all that true champions shine in the classroom. 🌟 Our students loved getting to learn, laugh, and read alongside these role models.
