Students at Tyler Legacy High School were recently recognized for their academic achievement as they received their AP Capstone stoles after successfully completing both AP Seminar and AP Research. The stole ceremony honored juniors and seniors who have dedicated two years to the rigorous AP Capstoneβ’ diploma program.
Developed by College Board, AP Capstone is an interdisciplinary program designed to build essential college-level skills such as critical thinking, research, collaboration, and presentation. Rather than focusing on a single subject, students explore real-world issues across multiple disciplines, conduct in-depth research, and present their findings through academic papers and formal presentations.
Students typically begin with AP Seminar, followed by AP Research, where they design and complete an independent study. Throughout the program, they analyze complex topics, evaluate multiple perspectives, and propose solutions to real-world problems.

At Tyler Legacy, the program is led by Teacher of the Year Daniel Hancock, whose guidance has helped students thrive. Impressively, only about 3,500 high schools nationwide offer AP Capstone, making this accomplishment especially notable. Students who meet additional AP requirements may earn the prestigious AP Capstone Diploma, recognized by colleges worldwide.
